Phonics Made Easy: Resources for Educators

When I first dropped down from teaching upper stages into the weird and wonderful world of lower stages teaching I was completely lost. The most confusing part was teaching Phonics. It genuinely felt like my colleagues were speaking a different language.

“They need to work on their blending and tricky word walls.” Huh?

“He’s still reading CVC words.” Yep…gotcha…

“You’ll need to check their understanding of Phase 2 phonics sounds.” Of course…I knew that…

My problems boiled down to these three big issues:

  • I wasn’t sure what to teach next because I had no starting point or framework to work from.
  • I had some kids that could read fluently and others who couldn’t name a sound if it slapped them in the face. How did I differentiate for that??
  • I couldn’t even tell you how I should teach each sound! How do you even do that?!

Sound familiar?

You’re not alone. So many teachers face the same daily challenge when they step into the lower stages: how do I teach phonics in a way that’s structured, differentiated, engaging and sustainable?

What If the Plan (and Resources) Were Already Done for You?

Eventually (with a lot of help from my year group partner!) I got my head around how to teach Phonics really well in the lower stages. It actually ended up being one of my favourite lessons of the week!

The resource that I developed helped me heaps to feel confident that I was covering all the bases of structure, differentiation and challenge for all my learners.

The Full Year Phonics Booklet became my all-in-one, no-stress phonics companion for the whole year. I have developed and refined it and hope that it can help you ease into your Phonics teaching for this year with a sense of confidence and calm.

This resource was created to solve the three biggest phonics frustrations I experienced:

✅ “Where do I start?”
✅ “What does differentiation even look like for Phonics?”
✅ “How do I even teach each sound?”

How It Works

This booklet gives you a full year’s worth of phonics practice activities and extension tasks – laid out in a clear sequence that progresses logically from sound to sound.

Each sound comes with a ready-to-use set of tasks that reinforce blending, segmenting, reading and writing. All you need to do is:

  1. Introduce the sound
  2. Play the video from Miss Phonics on YouTube
  3. Run through each of the Spelling Words, breaking them up into their sounds.
  4. Let the activities do the heavy lifting of differentiation and challenge.

That’s it. No stressing at 8:45am what you are going to do this time for your Phonics session. Just open-and-go phonics teaching with built-in differentiation.

Learners who need more support can work through the basic sound-matching and word-building tasks, while more confident children can tackle sentence work, spelling challenges and independent writing. All within the same set of materials!

Whether you’re new to teaching phonics or just need a streamlined system, this booklet takes the weight off your shoulders – so you can focus on what really matters: teaching the sounds and supporting your learners.
